Default 1940 Lincoln Trans diassembley help-

Harvesting a nice set of 26T LZ gears Although I have been working on EV8 transmissions since the 1960's it's not often enough to remember the easy way. I use Mac's book as a guide, but believe there may be a way to bypass the synchro hub removal in the finial steps. It seems to me if you can remove the rear bearing from the mainshaft with out damage to the slinger, you can pull the mainshaft with the hub in place. If that is true, how do you get the rear bearing off the mainshaft w/out damage to the slinger ? 2 photos; 1. Where is where I am now. 2. Rear bearing w/slinger on the mainshaft. Thank you, Russ

What I do is once the front main drive is out I then bump the end of the main shaft where the u joint goes, with a rubber mallet to push the main shaft through the rear bearing. The snap ring on the bearing prevents the bearing from moving with the main shaft.

Thank you Ken, that's it. I just forgot how to do it. The synchro hub stays on, the rear bearing is off the mainshaft, and you should be able to remove the mainshaft as whole assembly.
