Default install Throttle shaft to Lever

Hi all,

I have a zenith carb with brass Throttle lever and i need to replace the Throttle shaft the old one is worn and i wanted the keep the original brass lever so i bought a replace shaft i tried to use a punch and flare the brass but that ended up with a bent shaft lol. Anyone have any ideal on how to do it?
