Hi All.. I've found a small fine crack between the intake port and the bore on number 8 cylinder. Could I solder(very soft) or brass or tig with a high nickel rod? Would I have to fillet the crack? Could I apply some miracle epoxy compound?
She's at +80thou so would a sleeve and stitching across the deck be an option? Just trying to save some mula here. Regards Kevin |

At our shop we repair block cracks that don't involve the water jacket, such as the area in the valve pocket, by drilling and tapping a hole, and inserting a threaded plug, followed by some good sealer. If the crack is into the water jacket, or at the bottom of the bore, it is unlikely a repair will be successful. When we rebuild a flathead, we install hardened seats. This provides the best way to prevent future problems.

Frank Casey can stitch that and you won't even have to sleeve it.

Old repair on a block I have. Cracked in same spot, pinned, sleeved & new seat. Of course later it got moisture in block from sitting outside for many years.
