Trialling is car control against the terrain - not the clock. The aim is to clear the section without stopping or hitting a cane. The marker canes are normally staked out to limit the amount of momentum possible between turns. It's knowing when to trickle - and when to burn.
Normal road tyres have to be used - steering lock and ground clearance are handy. The VSCC like the Model A. Relatively cheap compared with a Vauxhall or Bentley... and loads of low down torque. |

IMG_0563.jpgAs one of the participants in the video I must say its the most fun to be had on 4 wheels, usually 2 day events involving up to a dozen or so hills and a testament to the build quality of these wonderful cars requiring very little attention between events. When you live in the UK with its temperamental weather you have to make the best of what you've got!

WE do similar things down here in NZ. Go on You Tube and Type in Irish Man Creek Rally. You will get to see what go's on.That is a famous South Island event lots of metal roads and off road Driving, for pre 1931 cars. Lots of Model A's attend.
Up here in the North Island we now have a similar VCC event called the Highland Fling. It started this April and I did attend. Also only open to Pre '31 cars. There were 110 entrants and 47 of them were Model A's of all types and conditions. It was Model A Heaven. It was held around the small central North Island town of Taihape. We made the main street look like a scene from the 20's. Rally HQ was the local pub. Lots of fun and games. All on back country metal roads and cross country private farm tracks. It was really enjoyable to drive on the type of roads and tracks that the A's were made for. My roadster just ate up the miles! Already booked for next year. Will take some chains for the muddy bits, but rope round the rear wheels worked this year. Video of event not out yet. Happy motoring. |

Parking my roadster on the Levee here in SE Louisiana recently, I managed to get it stuck in the mud.
I couldn't find any fat girls to bounce in my rumble seat but I was able to spray mud all over a group of good Samaritans who were kind enough to give me a push. Last edited by Skeezixx; 07-16-2021 at 02:40 AM. |

The people riding in the RR dual cowl phaeton sure look like they are having fun.
