Left garage on a four mile cruise, two miles in, engine cuts out and restarts happened second time, restarted, third time no go, no lites, no horn but turns over. Where to look, terminal box, switch?

Check the ignition wire that runs from the starter to the generator for power. Is there a fuse in the engine compartment??

If you have working.a test light, start at the terminal on the starter switch and follow the wires to see where the light stops. That should give you a answer where the problem is located.

If no fuse as Bob suggested, then jump the two terminals together in the firewall junction box. That will bypass the Amp Meter. Repro meters are failure prone, and fits your description of no lights, no horn, no ignition, but turns over.

I carry an old distributor primary cable end with the armor stripped off and a spring clip attached.
A jumper lead as GR suggests is a good thing to carry around. |

Yea' ... repro' ammeters are JUNK, I finally found an old one on eBay, end of problems.

May be coil. I had similar problem and it was coil. Just guess.

Yes - across both terminals in the junction box. If you look at the wiring diagram, jumping the two terminals does nothing more than eliminate the ammeter.

So… dropped t box cover, no juice on either terminal, inspected wires all seem ok, laid a wrench across t box studs and hit the horn button. She sounded off like a new bride on her honeymoon. Replaced ammeter. Now to find an original.

Glad you got it solved. Just follow the wiring diagrams. Model A wiring is relatively simple even for the 'electrically challenged'. It's not a monster - you just keep nibbling at it until it you nail it.
