Anyone had any luck with a decent reverse light setup? Mine only has metal caps where I assume they could go.

FORD issued a dealer install kit for your situation. If no one else here has the PN (NOS), I will dig for it.

check this out...
https://www.hotrodreverend.com/post/...-backup-lights maybe it will help - not sure what transmission you have and all but the back up lights are a pretty straight forward setup

3 speed manual sitting behind a base 2bbl 272. I've been looking to get my hands on a 3 speed OD transmission and do a swap, though.

cdgray899, You will love your stock OD. Two things to remember. Change the rear end to match Normal is around 3.89 to 1 . The other is hook up all the controls! the passing gear is awesome with a Y block and dual pipes. Did tis on my 55 vicky and my 55 bird.

The '55 style backup lights were a dealer installed option. Also used on '56 except Fairlane and Third models. I like the'56 style better and have them on my'55.

I installed an OD in my '55 Ford in '56, never changed the rear at all and ran it for 8 yrs with great satisfaction.

It takes two kits, the 1956 numbers are FDH-15582~C which is the parts that bolt to the steering column and FDR-15499-A and that is the tail light kit.

Is the switch and hardware to attach it to the column the same for a 3 on the tree or Fordomatic? Right now I have mine wired up on a toggle switch under the dash.

I have the original installation instructions that came with the kits I purchased and used on my 55 ford custom line. The instruction sheet was produced by the ford engineering group in Dearborn and dated 6- 15- 55.

![]() Now let me ask you a question. Is it possible to scan the sheet and post it here? I think I have a copy but I will never find it.
