Hello all, I am getting psyched up to yank the engine out of my 5 window.
It is a street rod, with really nice paint. I already got the hood off ( me and 2 other fellas) now it's time to remove the grill. Any suggestions? should I loosen up the fenders a bit, and the inner fender liners, to help the grill slide out? My last 35 was a 3 W project, so removing the grill and radiator I wasn't very concerned about paint. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks |

Just in my limited assembly of our 35's, I wouldn't think that you wouldn't need to loosen it ALL, I would think that since the grill is bolted up and lines up nicely I would want to keep as much as I could clamped down and solid so that it all lines up like it is now, hopefully!!! I would also think IF you need a "little" persuasion of the inner fender panel, and front of the fender...I would think IF you have a nylon trim pr bar you could use it to "move" what you need without scratching the paint. My mentor, JM35, figured that the grill might not really need to come out. Even then getting it lined up with the fenders involved creative language.

I have removed/fitted an engine in my 35 without removing the grill....however, it is easier in the long run to remove it. [much less nerve-wracking]. When you go to refit the grill, install it from above; as it tapers toward the bottom, you'll find it easily slides into place from above.

Hi Jeff. Can you provide me with some info on how you removed the hood on your 35? I just picked up a 35 Fordor. I have some stress cracks to weld up. I see a couple bolts at the firewall but dont see the same at the grill shell. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Paul |

At he back of the V8 emblem, if you lift each hood side, you will see a screw [one each side]. Remove those screws. Then you can lift off the front hinge retainer. it simply slides out of the channel that forms the hinge. There is another retainer at the back, however, I leave that in place. This helps with lining up the hood when you go to replace it. With the front retainer removed, simply slightly lift front of the hood and slide entire hood forward off of that rear retainer.
The front of the V8 emblem is attached at the front by another screw, accessible once you lever off the enamel Ford badge [it simply clips into place on the V8 emblem].... I fully remove the V8 emblem prior to lifting off the hood, not absolutely necessary, but it does prevent accidently damaging it or the hood.
