I started my 49 8BA today for the first time. Everything went fine. I used all the suggestions that i have read on the Ford Barn about first start ups. No leaks and about 28lbs oil pressure. Alternator was charging about 13.5 volts. After the holidays i am going to put the front seat in and take it for a ride.

Well done Coop, that's a great result. If it were me I'd have that seat in asap. I'm not patient enough.

i am even more impatient than Mart, i drove my coupe around the neighbor hood quite a bit sitting on a wood box. then graduated to some low back vw seats on a sheet of plywood while waiting for the upholsterer for several months to get the real seat

I would have to say that the initial start of an engine (whether a complete rebuild or just getting an old used one going again) is my favorite part of this whole hobby. It provides a real feeling of accomplishment.

Great news . . . looks like you have an early Christmas present! There is just nothing better than starting up a new flathead.

Have to laugh a bit. Thinking back when I first started and drove my 35 pickup chassis up and down the road sitting on a milk crate ! Smiling all the way, great memories for sure.
