Our town had a Fire Engine F-8 1949 with the 337 Engine and a 5 speed tranny. It was a Pumper 1st line piece for a number of years. When I got on it was a back up to our E 1.. I liked it and no one else did because of the problems trying to shift the old square cut gears. I never had a problem and hardly ever used the clutch except when starting to roll it. Could do it in my sleep as I was used to it. Lots of history about it including one of the officers died on the way to a call! Sad story and a great guy and neighbor.
