Custom building vintage style wiring
Hey guys, looking for sources of vintage cloth covered wiring and especially the large rubber heat shrink covers for the eye terminals for my speedster.
I'm going to use a '49ish dash mounted ignition switch and need to do some custom wiring for that and the same era gauge lamps. Photo so you know what I'm starting with. Thanks in advance. Jamie

E-bay has been my source for the proper cloth wire sold by the foot also the cloth sheathing with the tar coating also sold by the foot. Good luck with the speedster I’m just getting started on mine!

Re: Custom building vintage style wiring
Thanks for the ideas. I'm actually trying to find the heavy walled insulation that goes around the wire terminal. I assume that it's some type of heat shrink but it has a 1/8" thick wall. Probably should have calle Jeff at Bratton's today but I've been crazy busy at work.

They use it on Model A and AA commercial headlight conduits (instead of stainless flex loom like with the cars). Comes in all sizes though... |

Re: Custom building vintage style wiring
Harbor Freight has a heavy wall heat shrink with an internal glue that melts and seals the joint. Marine heat shrink tubing. I use it on my airplane and Model A connections.
https://www.harborfreight.com/search...hrink%20tubing It has 42 pieces and 6 different sizes in the box. |

Re: Custom building vintage style wiring
Sacramento Vintage uses a rubber sleeve that is applied with a 3-prong tool to expand. They can be applied without a tool, just takes longer.

Re: Custom building vintage style wiring
OK, that's what I'm after. Rubber sleeve makes me think it's just repurposed tubing...
Ironic that I can't find the pics that you posted on their site. PITA but thanks for the info.

Re: Custom building vintage style wiring
I use to make my own wiring harnesses . Now that color coded wiring harnesses are offered at a very reasonable price by some of the vendors , I use them . I always used the available headlamp wiring harnesses because I would rather pay the price than make the harness myself .

Re: Custom building vintage style wiring
I custom made my harness, used weatherpack connectors in the headlight harness to make removal a snap..heat shrink connectors in wet areas, fuse protected relay operated circuits to reduce switch loads..LED lighting leaves a lot of ampacity, even at night..
