Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards

Ok,I've used half a bottle dishwashing soap to help slide this stainless on. It will go 10-12 inches and it stops. Rubber feels smooth but may try some 320 sandpaper with detergent to smooth it more tomorrow. Any suggestions???

I must be missing something. I cannot figure out how you could slide them on since both ends butt up to the fenders. I do know they snap on. I did one years ago and cannot remember the process. I do remember it was not easy. Forgot whether to hook the top or bottom on first and then snap on.
I guess this doesn't help much.
