I must be missing something. I cannot figure out how you could slide them on since both ends butt up to the fenders. I do know they snap on. I did one years ago and cannot remember the process. I do remember it was not easy. Forgot whether to hook the top or bottom on first and then snap on.
I guess this doesn't help much.
