Well here is another shot for some help
Long story short I inherited a 49 Ford panel from my father when he passed away, I was only eleven years old and well the truck was apart longer than I had been alive.... Anyways most of the body and frame restoration is complete so.... I purchased a 302 from an 82 mustang that is stroked to a 347 about two years ago now and I am looking to install. I was thinking hey nice little hot rod motor, well the problem is I refuse to hack my frame apart to install the weld in kits.... I can throw a four bolt main Chevy motor in tomorrow I already have the kit for that but are there any kits out there for a Ford????? I eventually want to put the flat head back so hacking is not an option nor do I know if I posses the skills to complete! HELP PLEASE!! <-- me lol!Thank you, Patrick |

Patrick, the best advice I could give you is, put the flat head back in. It would be a lot more valuable to you and that is probably what your father would have wanted to do. Street Rods are a dine a dozen, it is only original once.

I second that. You can build a nice 8BA with plenty of power to get you in trouble. Patrick, get in touch with Vic Piano. He will set you in the right direction.

I third it, put the flathead back in and don't hack up anything.
The 347 Ford is an awesome little engine and that would be my second choice. Under no circumstances should you contaminate your Ford Panel or any Ford with a small block Chevy. They're great engines but Chevy engines belong in Chevy's and Ford engines belong in Fords. It's going to cost you a little more to build a flathead over a small block Chevy but you will more than make up the difference in the value of the panel when your done. You went on a flathead Ford site, what other responses did you think you would get? Jerry |

Once you start cutting it's hard to put it back to original style. HRP

If you decide to go ahead with the 302/347, Brockman (the muffler company) has a kit. I know nothing about it, just saw it in their catalog.

I have an article that shows how to install a 302/C4 in a Shoebox. All drawings are included for fabricating the motor mounts, trans mount and the modification to a Maverick/Comet rear end. Please email me @ [email protected] and I will send you the article by "snail mail". The article is from the 49-51 Ford/ Merc Newsletter.

Patrick, the 302 makes more power will be more trouble free, but the Flathead is the coolest hot rod motor on the planet nothing compares and you will not regret going with the flatty good luck, Chris

, either way, in my opinion you can't go wrong keeping the Panel Flathead powered.
