Hang onto that 49 star flag! But if you ever want to sell it, let me know. I was 11 years old and lived in Haines, Alaska, when Alaska became the 49th state in 1959. My family moved to Alaska from Pennsylvania in 1952 when it was a Territory. In 1960 Hawaii became the 50th state, and the 49 star flag was retired.
