Default TKO in 64 Galixy

My son and i are putting a TKO 5 speed in his 64 XL and i am looking to see if other people have done this before? The motor will be finished near the end of April and want it done before the back to the 50's show in June.I am not sure if the floor has to be cut to fit this unit in it,we are getting all the parts ordered to adapt the TKO to his bellhousing and moving his shifter foward and to the side if needed we are looking for input. Thanks Bill

The automatics in those were pretty big, so you may luck out. Is there a 4-speed or 3-speed in it now, if so how much space is there around it?

I don’t know enough about the 63-64 ford/Merc to know if this helps much, but it might be a start. Or elsewhere on that forum.

I assume this is for an FE engine. The 63/64 Galaxie cars have a good bit of space but a person needs to find out where the shifter will have to be. If it was already a floor shift car, the location may change. If it wasn't then it will be all custom anyway. There was enough room for big block FE and T10 4-speed installation but the TKO set up may be longer and taller at the back requiring a larger port. Bell housings & clutches are available but the stuff is pricey.

Just to add: You may want to try and contact Crites Performance Products. Ask them if they've tried this on a 64 XL. They make a cross member for a C6 installation that might help on a TKO alteration. Now I say "Might Help". It would have to drop the back a bit to fit a 460 with C6 so a person wouldn't have to cut the tunnel much if that's the case. Maybe someone else here or on the HAMB has tried it.

A word of caution; anytime you mock up a five speed, bolt it up with no clutch and peek up inside with a mirror to check shaft length, and never pull the trans up to the bell with one of the four bolts. If it won't slide up tight, find out why. Ears break off easy. Usually the trans input needs to be shortened about 3/8, easy with a wet rag and a hand held grinder. My adapter was 7/8 thick, so other measurements took care of themselves.
