I just noticed in the above pictures a spacer between the starter plate and the block. I have an 8BA
in my F1 and I don't have that plate. I do have a large open area above the starter plate which is for F1s, that I can see the back of the flywheel. Do I need that plate? Is it a truck part only? Feeble minds need to know.

That rope seal must have been REALLY effective! Never seen such a clean gravel driveway! Great photos and info here, as I'm leaning in the 8ba direction into an older truck. I think I have all those parts. Thanks, I'll be watching.

So the only bolts off that pan bracket are the same bolts that go through the starter plate and into the bell housing? The whole deal is just to stiffen up the engine/trans unit?

I think I've got everything I'll need whichever way I go, with the exception of the truck pan. Maybe the oil pump suction tube is different for truck?

And I still don't understand the dust cover deal, looks like it's just filling up space.

Is this what you are asking about (below)? It's a "dust seal" for the small bit of crank exposed, but it is between the starter plate and oil pan. It is held in place by the two oil pan bolts that straddle the crank. AFAIK no one sells the rubber seals for them any more.

The Best (Best brand) gasket set I used a couple of year ago had that seal in it.

The seals for the dust shield are available from Van Pelts, I received a set in November. The seals for the top of the flywheel cover are not.

Good to know, although since I'm running the Merc pan I don't use the dust shield.

The two seals numbered 6422 and 6423 (group numbers) in the picture below are no longer available that I’ve been able to determine. Seals 6424 and 6425 are the ones I was able to source from Van Pelt.

That is the plate or dust seal that I am missing.

I’m pulling up an old thread but can that oil pan be run without the dust seal ?

Curious why only the F-1 series of trucks used that dust shield. I'd assume it has something to do with the 11" clutch that was used.

Why would you want to do that? Is there some interference between parts? I have a couple of those floating around in my stash that I'll never use.
