Did you ever see letters and numbers stamped on an early block?

The VIN no. is stamped on the bell housing of my 41 Ford. The floor panel has to be removed to see it. It's pretty high up on the housing, but you can see it. Al

numbers are stamped on the transmission

These are not vin numbers...the stampings are
GDI42CAL Stamped in two places along the top of the block

most likely production codes--IE day, month, shift, etc
