Hey guys I can not seems to find the measurements
Of a 33-36 axle online. I found a couple threads but they seem off. Anyone have a site or measurements?

50 1/2 " centre of kingpins. 36 1/2 " spring perch bosses. Have you worn everyone out on the HAMB.

Hahaha maybe. Well the info I got on the hamb about the axle was incorrect so I thought I'd ask here. I'll keep the customizing questions for there though lol.

Thanks Randy, I think his info is wrong. Should the spring perch boss be more than 2"? I thought it was supposed to be like 2 1/4".

I don't think so much incorrect as confusing. Too many things being commented on at the one time. A lot of people also don't realise that 35/36 axle ,spring and wishbone are all different to 37/42. The only common part in the 35/36 front end to any other model is the axle which is the same as 33/34. As Krylon 32 was trying to tell you was the 48" SoCal axle is the closest you are going to get to the stock axle.And it is forged so another box ticked. However the 48" axle because it takes the stock spring perch measurement means slight work on the steering arms to clear the axle. The reason some axles don't need the arms bent is they have a narrower perch measurement so there is more room between the perch and the stub to allow this.
However, the point I tried to make on the HAMB was that with the stock wishbone on a 35/36 you will have to bend the arms to get the tie rod/drag link to clear the bone. So trying to find an axle that clears the steering arms is fruitless beacause you are going to have to bend them.
The 48" socal will go in without changing spring or wishbone.
Just get under the car (without jacking it up)with a tape and look where everything is going tio be 4" up and 2" in.
I tried to keep this as simple as possible for you to understand.
Also I may be wrong but I think the last poster is the man(thunderbird esq) you need to talk to for a dropped stock axle.(I may have the wrong guy)

Guess I'm confused as to what your looking for! Is the issue you don't believe any of these numbers? If that is the case, what are you basing that on?

I just was really confused. The only numbers I could come up with for the axle measurements was found on the HaMB searching Google. He said the axle was 51 1/2" in length so that was the first thing that through me off. The second part was speaking with a gentlemen who builds early fords. He was telling me that the 33/36 axles do not have a 2" perch boss. I took his word because I was at his shop looking at 8 different early fords he built. So with all that said the confusion is the main reason for the multiple posts.

Here's the main issue I'm concerned about and that's the width because of the spring perch arms that bend towards the backplate. With the SoCal axle being 1 1/2" shorter in length the backplate looks as if it will hit when turning.

Here is the 37-40 axel I rebuilt to go under my 36. The axel was dropped by Greg Haynes @ Anson axels. I don't have any pics of it under the car as it is in cold storage at this time. The axel is a 4" drop which means that it was dropped about 2 more inches over stock. Hope this helps you in your decision. Bill

Sounds like you have been getting a lot of confusing information! They have been putting dropped axles under early Fords about as long as the cars existed! I would call Sid's about clearance issues.

Ok, you better appreciate this!!! I have a back case of the flu, but drug myself out and measured an axle for you, LOL This is a 34 Okie Joe's dropped axle (the one Sid sells). The boss is 2 inches.

I've been trying to get a hold of him for over 3 months. He seems like a super nice guy but sucks at returning phone calls, messages, or answering questions which is why I was leaning towards the forged SoCal axle. If he doesn't want my money I'll give it to someone who does ya know. I would love to have him do it though since I've heard he's one of the best and he's so close to me.

Do yourself a huge favor and stay away from ANY aftermarket axles, such as SoCal, etc! If you're patient and get a REAL, Henry Ford '33-'36 axle dropped by one of the good axle dropping folks, there will be NO problem with the perch boss thickness, nor the distance between perch boss holes, which MUST line-up with your wishbone. You will also be assured that the metalurgical make-up of a FORGED steel Ford axle is actually built-in for the job at hand. Have patience, young grasshopper! DD

Note on the front end outlaw pictured he has the tie rod on top of the bone. If it clears your engine you can go that way. Need a 7 deg tapered reamer and taper the holes in the steering arms half way down from the top side.
Good to see you have finally gone under with a tape. Just remember you will be up 4" as well which may just give a little more room as the backing plate will be 4" higher.
