Re: Model A classification
BRENT, I agree with you. I do believe though that Pts. cars are over restored. I saw the same thing in antique aircraft. For the various reasons you mentioned people do this - I have no problem with what ever someone does with their car or airplane. The Pts. cars and airplanes are not restored to original factory condition but to a much higher standard. I do like to see restorations to the original factory condition - if that were possible. I believe later model cars are restored to factory for example, pts. are made by replicating factory paint over spray. Perhaps 2 different classes of restoration?

John, as a whole, a very high percentage of cars entered in Fine-point at MARC or MAFCA events are NOT over-restored. This may have been the perception from a decade or two ago, but these days, the level of competition is pretty intense due to how well documented the assembly process was back then. Restorers now are using techniques to mimick many of the original processes that simulate the original look with exacting standards. Not wanting to hijack your thread, but I will be happy to expound on this if you like. |

B
To me an 85 year old car should be just that with the personality it has acquired over its lifetime. I have no interest in squeaky clean, better than new examples. That's my opinion and it is probably different to many others. |
