Hello Ford Barn:
I need some help with my 1941 Ford flat -head V/8. I need to know when a starter solenoid is not working, and how to check it out to know when it is bad. And how to go across what terminals to jump it to get it in the circuit?. All help will be appreciated . Randall Hornback |

This is how it is wired internally. Terminals 1 & 3 are the large ones on each side, terminal 2 is the smaller one in the center. If the solenoid is disconnected, there should be no continuity between 1 & 3 or between either 1 or 3 and the mount. There should be continuity between 2 & 3. Terminal 2 is the connection to the starter button. The solenoid must be wired such that the Battery is connected to the large terminal that is internally connected to the Starter Button terminal.
With power connected to terminal 3, you should hear the solenoid click when terminal 2 is grounded. If the Starter is connected to terminal 1, it should engage when terminal 2 is grounded. Last edited by JSeery; 11-09-2016 at 03:14 PM. |
