I am trying to sell my 1948 Zephyr convertible and was contacted by a Colton Amos (probably not his real name). He sent me a check that was probably stolen for less than the full amount. The check was written on a Houston, TX firm but came from Dallas, PA and sent by a Gregg Hurst, again probably not a real name. Use caution when selling on the internet, if you suspect anything is wrong, it probably is.

Did you specify how you want to get paid? If you put it down in black & white it usually lets folks out there know that you won't do business any other way and hopefully they won't bother you with the crazy stuff.

If he is indeed a scammer, he picked a great name for himself. 'Colton Amos' conjures up images of Andy Griffith's brother in law, or maybe John Walton's part time helper at the saw mill......

Or maybe Amos n Andy. The check was signed by the Kingfish. Contact their attorney Algonquin J. Calhoun and he'll straighten out this mess..

Payment was to be made by bank draft. I would have verified a bank draft before depositing it also.

You are right, if it seems odd it probably is. You can't be too careful.

With near 300 million folks in the USA it's a wonder their aren't more crazies out there than there are. A partial personal or company check is definitely no Bank draft. Now days most banks prefer a wire transfer since the electronic funds sort of obsoleted the paper drafts but cashiers checks are still issued utilizing the proper procedures between banks.

I have a small checking acct with less than $100 in it. In the future I will deal with electronic transfers only. I might withdraw $90 from the acct to prevent a thief from getting the "big" bucks. I only used electronic transfer once, and was surprised that it took over 2 days to complete the transaction. I had always thought that it was instant, like pay pal.

I wonder what ever happened to that Prince in Nigeria? He was sending me 10 million dollars to hold and I could keep 10%. I only had to send him my bank account number and $3000 deposit! I guess it got held up in transit...haha!
Always get cash in hand! There's scammers everywhere. |

Was it Amos or Andy that had a geiger counter to count geigers?

And Andy's deputy was Barney Fife, Duh. Who is this Kingfish guy? Is he on 'The deadliest catch'? I love being a 'kid' at 62.......

At 62 you missed some of the best comedy of the 50's. the Amos and Andy show was a million laughs. They started out on radio which is way before your time.

All their episodes appear to be on YouTube. Here's a good one. What is the car they painted with a vacuum cleaner? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvZulz_rlcg
