Using Marvel Mystery Oil replaces lost lubricity that the ethanol causes and reduces the wear on the engine. Also, the introduction of the ethanol increases moisture content thus corrosion. MMO helps prevent the corrosion caused by moisture.

Yup! but he asked; "Several out there indicated they use MMV in their gas tanks to combat the ethanol problems. I know it offers top end lubrication for an engine, but what possible use could it have to remove or correct the ethanol problems in the fuel??"

Wont any of these additives contribute to the soot and carbon build up in the combustion chamber?? When I pulled my head there was a lot of black carbon build up. Normal thinking is the car has been running rich. But I wonder.

What about following Ford's instructions? That works for anyone who tries it. You put gas in the gas tank. Oil, on the other hand, goes in the crankcase. It really is that simple.

My father always used castor oil for upper lube in all his race cars. I still love the smell.

I've used MMO since the 60's. Same measure as Tom.
It works and is much cheaper than fuel stabilizers that I do use when the car is laid up for the winter. I had a type II VW (bus) and they are notorious for burning valves, particularly #3. When it was time to sell the first thing the buyer wanted to do was a compression test. All 4 cylinders were the same...! He asked how that could be. Top oil baby, don't leave home w/o it.

They used to sell glass jars that mounted to the firewall or inner fender, then a thin line ran to the intake. You could adjust the rate at which oil dripped into the line for upper cylinder lubrication.

It is designed to mix with gas and stay in suspension. All of the suggestions so far seem to work fine. All of the various liquids have a distinct smell out the tailpipe. Maybe that is why the wide difference of mixtures used. |

Our very poor ancestors knew more wear and ridges occurred at top of cylinders.
To prevent same, they always added always top cylinder lubricant. Today, everybody is rich, what "difference " does it make? |

"What about following Ford's instructions?"
so you are saying that Ford owners in the 30s, 40s, 50s etc had ethanol pollution in their gasoline.....some seem to be having trouble following this thread. all too often here the main point is totally missed

There are gullible people who are willing to spend money buying something that does nothing. Sea Foam and Marvel Mystery Oil are nothing but scams perpetrated on the unsuspecting by the unscrupulous.
