Reminds me of MARVEL "MYSTERY" OIL! I detest MYSTERIES, I have to know a ALL the FACTS.
"THEY" won't divulge the ingredients in gear oils, for fear we would concoct our own "BREW".
The Dog suggested SORGHUM SYRUP, to slow down the gears, for SYNCHRO-LIKE shifting He quoted Jackie Gleason, "HOW SWEET IT IS"!!! Dogs are SMART, Buster T. woke me up 3 times, with his COLD nose, to alert me that my Jitterbug Phone was playing its' "CHARGE ME" tune

If it's popping out of high gear I'd check the flywheel cover alignment, as well as worn input shaft and bearings. Maybe someone left the shims out for the top two bolts on the cover.

I know the shims are there because I asked about them when we put the engine back together. This is the first she has done this to me and dad can't remember her doing it-but then again he is old. Where does the input shaft get worn? Everything looked good when I took the tranny out.

One wear point for the input shaft is at the pilot bearing interface.

I have been using the 680 products in my A transmission and banjo for over 13 years and 26,000 miles. I have used both Mobil Meropa 680 EP ISO and Chevron Gear Compound 680 EP ISO. My transmission shifts like a dream. I would not use anything else.

No big secret. It is probably Mobil 600w, iso 460 or iso 680. All will work. The iso oils are better in that they have additives.

Funny old myths about what it was like in the good old days. When the refinery where I worked installed a unit to hydrotreat heavy lube oil and started delivering higher quality hydrotreated oils with the key properties the same or better, customers complained it wasn't the same old dark stuff anymore. It looked more like honey. I want my Maypo!

Likely from worn bearings in the trans or misaligned bell housing or something else worn out. Shaft can be turned down and a small ID bearing installed.

I don't remember any wear on the input shaft, but then again I wasn't looking for any either.

Saw a flywheel that had a little nick in the hole that holds the pilot bearing. Caused the bearing to be distorted and would throw it out of high. Strange things happen.
