John,

In my opinion, you should fix this the right way.

Buy a new stud. If you don't have the tools, most machine shops can fix this in about 5 minutes - -probably charge you $10-20.

Just my opinion

John;

Depending on where you live, this offer might make sense.

I will put the stud in for $1.00 (just the price of a stud).

Depends on how far and how fast you want to go.

I have heard of a case where someone waited until there were 3 good studs and ran the car until one broke. at that point he had the missing studs replaced on the road so he and his wife could continue crosscountry to get back home. I think he was unusually lucky to find the help he needed. Why not fix the issue now? It will never get easier.

Henry Ford was very concerned with cost. If his engineers thought 4 studs would have worked there would be 4 evenly spaced studs holding the wheel on. What you are proposing is 4 unevenly spaced studs. I think I would go with Henry on this one.

4 studs torqued properly with 1 missing will surely warp the Drum and Hub to a certain extent.

How much more "confidence" will you have running the fake stud??
I've seen many cars come into the shop with 4 out of 5. IMHO no problem.

I agree with Paul that you aren't in immediate danger of the wheel falling off, but I'd still fix it as soon as possible.
