Tractor Supply Starter drive gear
Hi, has any one installed the starter drive gear that Tractor Supply sells for a Ford tractor?
Does it fit and if so does it work OK? I've gone through 2 "modern" barrel style drives in 3 months. Want to try something different. The car is 12Volts with a 12 Volt starter. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, herb Concord CA |

Re: Tractor Supply Starter drive gear
Take a close look at the teeth on the ring gear, if they are worn the drive will not mesh as easily, there will be more shock loading.
--my opinion--convert back to the reliable 6V/original bendix, I havn't had to do anything to mine for 35+years when I put in nos bolts and locking tabs on a drive I found in the trash --it has even survived the abuse of using the starter to drive the car out of the garage the few times it hasn't started right away. |

Re: Tractor Supply Starter drive gear
I bought a Case tractor starter at a swap meet a few years ago because it has a mint Bendix drive identical to the Model A.
I agree with Kurt, an original Bendix works great. Just make sure the helix isn't rusty, and has a coat of very light oil, and make sure the lock tabs and bolts are in good condition and correctly locked in place. |

Did you convert the starter to 12 volts? I think Synder sells a conversion for 12 volts. The starter may not hit as hard with the conversion.
I agree with the other two posts. I have the original 6 volt system and it works fine. |
