Default Brake Rods

If I'm reading the judging standards right. After may 1928. the 5/16" rods were all the same to end of production. Is this correct I'm sorting threw my brake rods trying to find a set for my 1929 coupe.

From mid to late 1928 the brake rods were non-adjustable. They were made in one piece with an eyelet on each end. After Nov. 1928 the brake rods were made with a threaded end and were again adjustable to the end of production.

Unhappy Re: Brake Rods

Thanks Tom Looks like I need to call Bert's. The brake rods off my car have been altered/repaired here's one off the rear. The rest are all different lengths

Yep, after 3 years of looking at Hershey and other swap meets, I finally found the correct original non-adjustable brake rods for my 28 Phaeton at Bert's when I stopped in about 4 years ago.

Sure wish Bert's was closer.

Tom, I have a early 28 coupe and the e-brake rods I have are stepped. Meaning they have bends in them. Are yours the same? If so I'll be on my 3yr hunt next. ha.

No, The non-adjustable brake rods are straight. Some of my brake rods have also had bends in them, but that is a common lazy man's fix to shorten the rods.

You can easily straighten the rods in a vice, then roll them on the table to see if they are truely straight. It'll take a few tries to work all the kinks out, but they are easily bent cold.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow. They are not bent by the layman, it was definitely a stock deal. Maybe not a ford stock setup but adapted from something.

No you are right. These were bent. I guess I didn't think anyone would "fix" something this way and didn't really look at them.

Getting replacements.

Thanks Tom
