Transmission Gasket Sealant?
Just wondered if there was one gasket sealer you guys preferred over another for your transmission gaskets? Thanks

Re: Transmission Gasket Sealant?
Gaskets usually don't need any further sealing if the mating surfaces are flat and without any burrs or debris. If needed I would choose a spray on sealer.

Re: Transmission Gasket Sealant?
get a silicone gasket sealer, one that you don't have to use a body grinder to remove the gasket the next time you work on the trans

Re: Transmission Gasket Sealant?
I just use grease. If I need to take the gearbox apart the gaskets will come off without tearing.

Re: Transmission Gasket Sealant?
Try Yamabond4, available for about $10 a tube at Yamaha dealers, Harley and Honda have similar products but I have not used them. It is a non-hardening product, that stays flexible. I have used with gaskets on engines, transmissions and rear-ends and without gaskets on crankcases and oil filled chaincases. It seals extremely well, future disassembly and clean-up is easy. I have used it on air and water cooled car and motorcycle engines with great success. Good stuff.

Just use the old standby of non-hardening Permatex.

Re: Transmission Gasket Sealant?
I just grease the gaskets for the dame reason stated a few posts above. It's gonna be me working on this thing in the future, and a that point the old gasket just comes straight off, grease a new one and back together.
I only use "stuff" on the joint faces if the faces are compromised, and only if it's to big a job to reface the faces. Martin. |

Re: Transmission Gasket Sealant?
I have a side-loader trans with one corner broken off the side cover. It had been sealed with RTV and the PO tried to pry it off with a gasket scraper. Didn't turn out well...
