Do a new tank. you will like yourself down the road. Life is to short to deal with an old bad tank.

Ok so I had an idea on getting the stuff out of the tank. Only about the bottom 3 inches has the old black stuff. I went to the pet shop, got some 1/4 inch rough gravel. Filled the tank about an inch deep. There is room around the baffles to get it evenly distributed. I tied the two ends to a chain and hung it from a tree. I then went back and forth, side to side. I did this off and on for around an hour. Flushed it out, gravel all came out rather easily if you angle the tank right. My result after an hour is crazy good. I am going to do another round tomorrow and I think it will be good to go.

Put the gravel in then strap it to the mouth of a cement mixer. Don't leave it too long!

2nd round was good. Tank looks pretty good inside, not new by any means but stained. Going to do a few flushes tomorrow with gas and I am putting it back in. I took the carb apart and the bowl was almost empty. That compared with the clogged lines makes sense as to why she would've run any more. New soft line got here today so hopefully by the weekend end I can take another hopefully successful test drive. Does anybody have a diagram or pic of how the factory fuel line was run? Mine I do not think was original.

Instead of using gas, I would try 2 gallons of acetone. That stuff really cuts the varnish. I did a tank once and it did really good. And then a final wash out and shake and bake with gas. Just my 3 cents.

Success! Got the truck all back together today. Took the carb completely apart and blew everything out, oiled the accelerator pump and put it back on. All new lines, added a glass fuel filter just outside the tank. It is pumping nice clean gas. Primed it and she fired right up. Idles awesome and has some power. I am sure I will have to keep an eye on the filter and clean it regularly but she is back up and running!

Did you apply a sealing coat in the tank? I had the same problem as you and ended up putting nuts and bolts in the tank and rotating. Once that was done I flushed the tank with water and once dry applied red kote sealant. I hope your tank stays clean. Good Luck

I did not apply a sealant. I think and hope that with as much driving as I have planned for it, it stays the way it is. Was there a sealant from the factory?

Kudos on the gravel method. I read about someone here who did the same thing with the tank strapped to a rear tractor rim while they did the farm chores. Working and playing at the same time.
