After I rebuilt my flattie I learned that it is better to chase the threads with a proper tool and not a cutter for making new threads. I am looking at starting another rebuild soon. Anybody recommend a place to find a thread chaser kit that offers the general sizes of threads in a flathead block, especially the heads?

I bought a complete kit at a swap meet for 40 bucks. Wish I had done it years ago.

Check to see if K-D or Lisle has a kit. They're into that sort of stuff.

I take an appopriate bolt and file at least three grooves along the length of the threads. Works great and it's mighty cheap.

i bought mine at sears for 49.99 and it works great....but it does have metric

The threads for the heads in a flathead are not standard tolerance. I would use a old stud with a thread cutting groove. I bevel the end to make a simple cutting edge.
