Rear Axle end play
While checking the breaks on my 30 coupe I noticed that the passenger side rear has a noticeable about of end play (about an 1/16). Grabbing the wheel and pulling and pushing produces a noticeable clack. Drivers side is OK.
I tried looking in the various repair manuals, but couldn't see any detail. Are there trust washers in the differential that controls this? Everything at the drum/hub end seems to be OK. There is one shim installed on the taper, and I can't see how that would control the end play. Hub bearings look OK, and the axle nut is torqued properly. Any suggestions? |

Re: Rear Axle end play
Did a search for axle end play before, but spelled axle as "axel" no wonder I didn't find too much, lol.
Still not comfortable with what I have found, don't know if I should be worried? |

Re: Rear Axle end play
You might have some wear on the carrier thrust faces in the rear end, but at 1/16" I wouldn't worry about it unless the rear end needed to come apart for other repairs.
Too bad you aren't closer. I have a complete spare rear end. |
