The only ones used by Ford on the production line were the type with a separate ferrule. The integral type only pinch the pipe on the end of the ferrule. In other words only one clamp onto the pipe. The old generic type pinch the ferrule in 2 places.

The integral type are ok but if available I prefer the old type. You can buy the ferrules separately and reuse them indefinitely.

With respect again Mart. The ferrule is NOT only 1 compression point but 2. If you will just examine the picture carefully you will be able to see. It compresses the ferrule in two places just like a free ferrule. I could take one apart to show you but they are hard to come by and I do not want to waste one to prove the point.

No probs. It just comes down to personal preference. I would hope they might be available rom somewhere for less than the price quoted there, though. I used to buy a carb to fuel pump pipe that had a fitting on each end relatively inexpensively from Mac's just to get the fittings. The pipe was junk but the fittings were good.

The separate type nuts and ferrules are available from Model A suppliers.
Part number A-9243 or A-9243-B if you want a 9/16" hex.

I would imagine Michael at Third Gen has the them too. He's on this forum.

The one piece fuel line fitting was two pieces pressed together to form the one part. Only one end pinched down on the tube while the other allowed some movement. The separate ferrule type would pinch the ferrule down onto the tube which would allow the nut to turn independently until tight. Both are compression fittings but both are not designed to be used through a lot of removal and reinstallation cycles due to the slight movement of surface metal at each cycle. They are only good as long as they seal the joint without ruining the threads by tightening them up too much.

I don’t know, you haven’t convinced me yet. I include a picture for your examination. The nuts are identical. The only difference that I can see is the ferrule for the Ford designated fitting is longer. I believe the nut will compress both ferrules the same. I have to add that it is with GREAT hesitation that I openly disagree with rotorwrench on ANYTHING. LOL

I gotta tell you guys that I just went out to my shop and did an intensive and scientific test to see what I could determine. You can start giggling now if you wish! I took some new 1/4” copper tube and tested a regular nut and ferrule and the “Ford designated” nut/ferrule. I do not think the outer side of the ferrule on EITHER combination does much of a crimp/squish. Like my dad who was born in 1895 would say “Put that in your pipe and smoke it!” Has any of you other old timers heard that saying? I am finding this thread quite enjoyable. LOL

Both of those nuts are designed for the captive ferrules. The proper nut for the separate ferrules do not have a stepped bore. The bore is a 1/4" (with some clearance).

I think we are lucky that Mart wasn’t the opposing general in the Revolutionary War. Pick up your marbles and go home Mart! LOL. No offense meant. This has put a big smile on my face! Life is good here.

Every day is more water under the bridge since Ford built this stuff. Availability seems to go in waves. Back when I was young, the Ford dealers still had some old stock on parts but it dwindled till reproduction stuff came into being. I thanked God for Hemmings Motor News back then. Reproduction stuff has gone up and down in quality more than I like to remember. The fact that a fair amount of reproduction stuff is still available has been what kept the hobby going all this time. I just hope it keeps coming. A lot of stuff has come and gone for now at least. I just hope nothing is gone forever or it will make it hard to keep the old Fords on the road. I imagine that some of these old cars have been restored several times.
