The old style fittings rely on the pressure of you pushing the grease gun to seal. The same action pumps the grease. They don't need to be screwed in because the pressure also keeps them in. It is a whole different technique from what you guys call a Zerk (had to look that one up).
Hold the gun square and push - job done.
