"worth it" depends on what you have in mind for the vehicle. If basically stock then just as well leave it 6v and get it in top-notch condition. If you are wanting to run a lot of add-on devices such as radio, gps, etc then a 12v conversion might be a good approach. The parts you need are basically the same ones you need for the v8. I have no idea on the alternator.
