Tim, yes it is. The '51, '52, and '53 Fords had what's come to be known as "Korean Chrome",
because of the shortage of materials due to the Korean War. The chrome plated parts were varnished at the factory to keep them looking good. As I recall (I'll have to go read the original owners manual that was in the car when I got it in '73) there is a section that deals with the care of the varnished chrome... Fortunately, several years ago I found a re-plated OEM unit that I will eventually install, once I get the cars third restoration under way...
