Default Re: ZINC additives and hardened valve seats necessary?

Fair question. A few years ago when the "no zinc" situation hit I paid little attention to it. At that time I had a friend who had a cam flatten in his OVH engine. I called a friend in the petroleum industry and asked him about it. He said the flathead would be ok but would recommend the 15W-40 diesel oil for OVH engines to be safe. One of my babies has a very warmed up 302 so I took his advice. Didn't want to keep a separate oil for each of my cars so I switched them all. This was years ago and no problems, so I am happy.
