I was wondering is it possible to run a 12V pertronix ignition in my distrbutor with a 6volt postive grd system. I know it's half of 12V but even if it operated a 6v would it work? I have a 57 or later distributor in my car and the regulator system in pertronix is set up for a 55 distributor with the loadomatic distributor. I talked to one guy a long time ago and he said that the iginitor would just dish out what was going in. Does any of this make sense? Would the 12v just not accept the 6v my system would send to it? Just some winter dasy dreaming......Dave

I would call Pertronix tech line and ask,I don't think it will work based on the number of units that are available,but you might get lucky.

Speedway has one listed and says 12 neg ground.So i,d say no.

Two of us in our club with Model A's positive ground system run Petronix Coils, and have had no problems to-date. We'll have to see after a couple thousand miles.
The extra hot spark is fantastic.

Pertronix does make a Ignitor I in 6v pos grnd. I have used it for years in my Model a Ford. The one drwaback to the Ignitor I is that the module can lose its "magic smoke" if the ignition is left on without the engine running. The Ignitor II has circuitry that will not allow the module to burn up if the ignition is left on. Unfortunately, the Ignitor II is not made in 6v pos grnd.

I went to the pertronix web site and got the number for the coil. It's the same number that Speedway parts is offering for only 30 bucks. I think I'll invest in one here next year. But, how big of a spark plug do you run beyond 0.35? Dave

If you are replacing your points with Pertonixs Ign,you need 12 volts neg grd.If running 6 volts use 6 volt coil,or 12 volt coil with the Pertonics Ign.

According to the Pertronix catalog the Y-block part number is 1282. Foot notes 55, 56, and 57 say if you want it 6v positive ground add P6 to the part number, N6 for 6v negative ground, or P12 for 12 volt positive ground.

Call Pertronix. I think they do have a 6 volt unit for positive ground.

Every web-site that handles pertronix that I've been to handles a 6V pos grd. My problem is I've got a '57 or later distributor in my car. They only make a 6V pos grd for a stock "loadmatic" 55 distributor. I can't take that unit and use it on my distributor because the holes won't line up with my later unit. Of course I still should call pertronix directly to see if they have like a universal set of some sort but, I highly doubt it. Dave
