I guess you have to get all in writing from the insurance company, what they will and will not cover.
Anyone out there have a Hot Rod insured? |

My Ford 35 3 Window is considered "modified" ( read "Hot Rod") because of the high horse S.C.o.T blown flathead and some other subtle changes - I have it insured with agreed value - I read the policy from cover to cover and very comfortable with the coverage.

I have a restored '67 Corvette with a small block. As I said before, I have my cars insured with Condon and Skelly, who I hear are very good. (I have had no claims, but have talked to some people who have that are very happy.) I have been with them for over 25 years. Anyway, this last go round I decided to finally insure the Corvette for what I thought it was really worth. I used the car valuation link on their site and it gave me a low value of 65K and a high value of 122.5K(!!??). This for a small block car! I called them and asked them to raise it from 25K to 65k (I am a realist). No additional photos, no appraisal, no stupid increase in rates, and no problem. I was amazed. I think that if you've been with a quality company long enough, they take you at your word and let you insure it for anything you want just for the increased premium (actuarial justification).
I also know of an egotist with a 15 year old Prowler that wanted it insured for 35k (these are 20K cars, max). As long as he paid the premium, they were OK with it. As a final note, I am amazed at how low the rates for antique cars are for agreed values policies from major companies. |

Like PeterC, I have a modified car (hot rod). Only question I was specifically asked was about the engine. Was it still flathead powered? Yes was my response. No problem. I did provide several pictures
Had it been some other late model OHV engine, I think their (Ins Co.) answer would have been different. My insurance is thru Grundy. Good company, good rates Interesting question re the AV8 I have no idea what Ins Co would want/require Last edited by Kahuna; 08-03-2015 at 02:38 PM. Reason: Add info |
