Default My 32 Truck

Some of you would have seen this on the Hamb already. Picked it up this week about 2 hours north of where I live. A sweet old original truck. In pretty good shape. I'm thrilled to have it.

What a great find. What does the floor of the bed look like under the plywood?

I'll take a wag and say fenders were black, at least all fenders were black through 33 as far as I know.

The floor under the plywood is pretty rough. Some rust holes. I'll be leaving the wood in for now. I don't plan on painting anything on it either. Its too easy to get started then next thing you know you are tearing it apart to fix everything and not driving it, lol.

Kevin, that's a great truck. The recomendation to stick with the mech brakes is a solid one. Properly mainained & adjusted they are as effective as hydraulic brakes and much simpler to keep up than a hydraulic system that tends to sit for long periods of time, and go bad on you from lack of use.

I have to put juice brakes in it. I just doesn't stop worth a darn. Its already got a new muffler. Carb kit, new rad hoses, and motor mounts this weekend. Other than that drive it as is for awhile. Its just too cool to change right now.

Kevin she,s awesome , but before you go to the trouble & expense of juice brakes , a redo of your rod brakes & add some of Flathead Teds floaters with everything adjusted correctly they will stop her as good as hydraulic brakes.
Cheers

Kevin,

Have you adjusted the brakes according to the Service Bulletins? You should get a copy of the service bulletins if you don't already have one.

Everyone has lots of advice. If you choose to go hydraulic and do not want to go disc, try the F1 or f-100 pick up brakes. they are much better than the 39-48 and the parts are readily available and more affordable than the earlier ones. The 39-48 on the rear axle is still a good choice. Just my 2 cents

You should check out the adapter required to run original wire wheels on the F1 or F100 pick up brakes (I hope you decide to keep the original wheels). It is my understanding that it is very thick. I am running the '46-'48 brakes on my '32 roadster and have never had a reason to complain. The car is powered by a 181 inch Mercruiser Marine engine. The guru on brakes is Richard Lacy at [email protected], (626) 338-2282. Be sure to check out his master cylinder mount that requires no cutting and uses the original pedals.

I like it. Put the juice brakes on it like you said and drive it. I'm planning on doing the same with my dad's truck.

I will admit I haven't tried adjusting the existing brakes yet. Guess I could try that first.

Kevin,

Just a random thought. You might want to find a fuel pump rebuild kit designed for this new gas and put it on the shelf (or maybe a complete Pump). It is something you will probably need.

Be sure to check out Renner's Corner (734) 428-8424 for parts. They are small and don't advertise but have a few unique '32 parts and services (maybe the fuel pump rebuild kits). I notice that ken ct, 1-203-260-5945 cell email [email protected], also rebuilds pumps. Either of these sources might have the correct rebuild kits.
