Modern paint is very toxic. It can enter your body through your eyes. I use the full face and head cover with a filter pack that has a small blower. Plus a full paint suit and gloves. And by Modern, you mean urethane paints that contain isocyanates . Enamels (and lacquers believe it or not) are still available that don't require a hazmat suit to apply.
