I had a similar problem a while back. The difference was mine was on the car and I couldn't get it to release. I ended up drilling a small hole and putting a pin through it so that both parts were locked together. This was a mint Eaton, that had been restored. Now sitting on the shelf waiting for a solution.....
I am currently running a locking cap with a greyhound.
