Re: Help needed to identify Bell Housing

Its not a Ford its missing the clearance for the starter cover on the oil pan. Also there's some missing bolt holes as well as the dowl pin alignment holes. And the throw out bearing shaft pivot...

Re: French Flathead Crankshaft

Its actually easy to measure the stroke if the crankshaft is not in a block.

Here's how I do it. Place a block of wood under the front and rear main bearing surface here in the U.S. I simply use a...

Re: (Best) copper head gasket and offenhauser aluminum heads

Since you found the crap at the rear of the block that's an example of lack of proper coolant flow. Another reason I always open up the coolant holes in head gaskets especially at the lower rear of...

The latter flathead Ford 8BA heads were redesigned to flow more water out of the rear of the block not less than the front. The water holes in the gaskets shown by the original poster are defeating...

Re: 1937 21 Stud Oil pan front and rear seal and gasket clarification.

When I build a Ford flathead I do not cut the front rope seal flush with the pan and front cover. The way I do it is simply trim the cork gasket around the rope seal that's protruding out of the...

Re: Magneto and belts

The narrow belt came on the Ford 8BA in 1949 for the engines used in some passenger cars. The wide belt continued being used for the Ford trucks in 1949 to 1953.
