Re: Clutch Release Shaft Bushing tool
Thanks all. I ended up doing a combination of all the above. Mangled the bushings getting them out. Used the bushing driver to install. Used a hose clamp around the outboard side of the bushing...

Re: Clutch Release Shaft Bushing tool
Good news is the bushing tool arrived. Bad news is I still can't bust them loose. Tried pressing them out with a clamp and tried pounding them out with a hammer. The too actually started spreading...

Re: Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford
The first time I did mine, I cut it too short. Had to buy a new gasket set. Like Kube says, but before you cut it in two, press the gasket in one half of the shell. Leave the starting end a bit...

Clutch Release Shaft Bushing tool
Hi All,
I'm trying to replace the two clutch release shaft bushings (1940, 40-7508). Third Gen has a tool to drive the old ones out, and new ones in, but they're out of stock. I don't want to...

Re: Ujoint gaskets for 1947 Ford
Sounds like the TO bearing was installed backwards. Did you have to press it onto the carrier, or did it just slide on with no effort. No effort = backwards.

Re: Clutch Chatter
The pressure plate is attached to the input shaft of the trans. With the trans in ANY gear, you're trying to turn the drive shaft and rear wheels.

Re: 1940 Motor Mounts
Thanks Mike, Fordy, Terry and Pete. I have all the right parts. I probably got the current mounts way too tight when I put the motor back in last spring. Replacing the front mounts in hopes of...

1940 Motor Mounts
I asked this question in the recent "Clutch Chatter" thread, but didn't get an answer. How hard should I tighten the motor mounts? Is there a torque spec? Till the threads bottom out? As tight as...

Not sure what you mean by "cushion"?? Looked on their website, but didn't see anything about a cushion??
Thanks,

Re: Clutch Chatter
I too have a nagging chatter problem in my '40. Just to try, I order two new motor mounts. How hard should they be tightened down? I've never seen any comments on that.
Thanks,
Nick

Re: Adding a ballast bypass starter solenoid???
crjohn, thanks for jogging my memory on the engine ground strap. When I read your post, it made me realize I never reconnect the ground strap when I put the engine back in my '40 several months ago....

From under the dash, yes; but not the knobs and short metal piece the rods bolt into.
