Re: Which F-series grille do you prefer?

I like them all, but prefer the '51-'52.

Re: Importing a car from Canada

I'm from Canada and have brought an American car here in the past without problem, and I've also "exported" things to the U.S. without trouble (you just need the right paperwork).

I cross the...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Oh, and... does anyone have the best possible source for '39 production info? I have the Standard Catalog of Chrysler (used to be a big Mopar fan back in the day) but I don't have the FoMoCo...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Hehe, this argument could go both ways: am I really sure I want to spend so much of my limited time on this Earth painstakingly restoring this carcass? :P

(... the answer may still be...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Money, or mostly time...? It's quite different. I'm looking at it as a hobby. I know your advice is sound, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't always apply to people who are do-it-yourselfers.

FWIW,...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

$2,200 USD.

But, as is usually the case from what I've gathered, even with a free car you'd probably be upside down in terms of equity in the end if you were to do a perfect restoration. I would...

Re: Want to adapt a F-O-M to my flat 6. Advice?

I was actually thinking about your logic, and I believe I have an irrefutable argument to offer to counter it: your own example!

Out of the more than one million buyers who bought Fords in 1951,...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

I have a question for you guys regarding those production numbers.

From this source (VanPelt Sales, which from what I've seen is kind of a reference here),

Re: 1948 Ford Super Deluxe V8 Sedan Garage Find in Milwaukee-Dormant for 44 years

Nice '41 business coupe! Which one of the three (the other one being your son) has priority? :P

Re: Want to adapt a F-O-M to my flat 6. Advice?

In any case, with your custom bellhousing you will truly have an unique yet period-correct '51 coupe... whether or not FoMoCo made a handful of them or zero, you'll probably have the only one in...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Also, random bit of info I learned while googling, it seems that the guy who won both the very first NASCAR race and first season (in 1948) was driving a '39 Standard. The car is on display in the...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Hi Ron,
first off, happy birthday!

But are you sure you want to apply your statement to both cars and trucks? '40 and '41 trucks are the same, while '39 trucks are identical (or pretty damn near...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

One thing that's interesting, given that Ford made about 150,000 V8-60s for 1939 and only 190,000 Standards in total, this 91A Standard Coupe has got to be a fairly rare car (with less than 8,000...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Are '41s generally less sought after than '46-'48 models...? They're more unique, older, and rarer, but they have a more radical / polarizing front end design, so I'm not sure what the overall sum of...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

True, but I happen to prefer the '41 dashboard, and vertical tail lights, to name only a couple. So if I could pick and choose elements my ideal '41-'48 would be a mix of various models anyway.

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

You guys are right, the side of the cowl is very totally different for a '38-style hood and fenders vs the Deluxe/'40 hood!

So this body shell, which combines the '39-'40 back and the '38 cowl...

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

That's what I understood from your post. Production info (options, original color, etc.) is available for some Lincolns but not for the Fords.

So, let's say, vehicle # 18-4,915,624, well, no one...

Great! Thanks for all the info :)

So, if it looks like this, it's a Standard:

i.e. when people buy these:
http://www.absolutesheetmetal.com/content/1937-1940-absolutely-bitchin-ford-car-parts

they grind off the old one and weld the new one in place...? just like floor pans?

Re: Distinguishing a '39 Deluxe from a '39 Standard

Thanks David, I knew that info was available for Lincolns but I thought the equivalent archives for Fords were gone. I'm used to modern vehicles and VIN decoders, this is pretty different! Serial...
