Re: 52 Mercury Flathead runs rough.

Could be timing, but we need to know what distributor you have. 12 or 6 volt ? Plug wires in the proper firing order etc. Others here much smarter than me will jump in and you'll get it sorted.

A friend had a 50 Merc and used Hirsch Mercury Green which was VERY close to the original paint on the heads prior to rebuild.

Looks orange to me which is correct for 52. Not sure it is "Ford Orange" in the pic. Chrysler and Ch - - - used an orange also.

I know a guy with a 59a engine he rebuilt years ago and ran Mobil 1 from day one. Many years later it still runs strong with VERY LITTLE oil use or leaks.

Denny, sorry but I gave it back to the guy I got it from, & he has since passed away. Lots of good stuff just vanished with his passing.

Nice !!! Glad you could save it. I had one a few years back & couldn't find points 4 it so went back to stock setup.

Interesting as I had a Leece Neville voltage regulator on a boat that did the same thing.A marine mechanic friend couldn't figure it out either. Lid on it would discharge, lid off worked fine....
