Re: removing a gauge cluster

It’s not my favorite thing to do. There are four small nuts that hold the cluster to the dash. Two on the bottom and two on the top behind the dash. The speedo cable will unscrew from the cluster,...

Re: 1941Ford 1/2 Ton Pickup front shock links-help to identify

I don’t believe the pickups came with anti-sway bars. My 41 pickup does not have one either.

When I replaced the shocks on mine, it had longer front shock links, something like 4”, but I found...

Re: Overheating 1946 V8

180 degrees, Carquest 13848. I do like some others here and place a clamp on the hose above the thermostat. That holds it down on the water neck. I’ve never had the hoses with that oversized pocket...

Re: 6 Volt , positive ground,LED, 7 inch Headlights for 49-51 Ford

Make sure you have good grounds as well. And good ground cables.

Here is the Bosch 6v relay. It’s the best quality 6v relay I know of. Part number 0986AH0611...

Re: 6 Volt , positive ground,LED, 7 inch Headlights for 49-51 Ford

I searched about a year ago and also came up empty. The only solution I found was if you used Hella 7” halogen conversion headlight housings and fitted led headlight bulbs in them. However, the Hella...

Re: Looking for a quality 6 Volt Starter

I'd check the battery and starter cables also. I just replaced mine through batterycablesusa.com with 00 gauge cables. With the 6v optima, it cranks strong hot or cold.

Re: 1939 pickup engine oil filter

The leak from the top is probably from the rubber gasket that came with the filter. I found the Wix 51006 has the right size gasket.

Re: Opinion needed on fuel pumps

Chicago never gets Texas hot. It sometimes gets TN and VA hot.

For what it’s worth, I’ve only used an airtex 6v pump for the last 10 years. It works excellently. Maybe it was a bandaid when I...

Re: Where’s my water going?

I believe he has retorqued and replaced head gaskets.

It is a good point about a new engine running hot for a little while. You can richen the mixture to cool it off for a couple hundred miles,...

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

I don’t think installing the rear cam bearing sideways to block the fuel pump pushrod hole is a well-known trick. I kinda doubt your installer did it, but you can check by putting the pushrod in and...

Re: New build overheating

Looks like the efire is set to 22 degrees at full advance. Stock distributor is 24 like Bored&Stroked said. I have a crab dist with a pertronix, and I set the timing by marking TDC on the crank...

Re: New build overheating

Did you drill small holes in the thermostats? And did you place them on the head water necks, or down the hoses near the radiator?

Re: New build overheating

Take the radiator cap off when cold and look for bubbles in the coolant as it runs. You can buy test kits that check for exhaust gasses in the coolant also. The mechanical temp gauges are a good...

How long did you run it before it did this?

Re: New build overheating

I second the 180 stats. Your engine will run a bit hot for a couple hundred miles since it is new and tight. And your radiator will find the right coolant level. I agree with everyone, it may not be...

Re: Front Shock Removal

So, jack stands if you want more working room, but if you can reach in there with the car on all 4 tires, you can take them off like that as well.

Re: Looking for a machine shop

I had the same experience as Bruce two years ago in the Chicago area. The flathead machinist I was using could not guarantee the repair would hold up. I ended up finding a better block.

Re: Fender stuff - '35 pickup

I can’t really tell from the picture, but are you looking for “fender welting?” Like Bill said, it’s for sale at many places.

Re: 40 Ford Sedan Shocks

Kube, how do you apply the STP oil? Do you use the zerk or apply it to the outsides of the springs and let it seep in?

Re: Started wiring my 40 today…some questions

Double check your Stromberg or Pertronix instructions, but I believe all electronic ignitions require full voltage, so you will probably bypass the ignition resistor.

Re: Muffler help

I’m glad to hear you are giving Waldrons a chance to remedy the problem and troubleshoot with you. My experience with them was all good for a stainless system on my 41 pickup. No fitment issues, I...

Re: Best chemicals/solutions/goops to clean off gear oil, etc. on a chassis

I’ve heard good things about dry ice if you can find someone near you does it. Cleans well, but doesn’t damage paint, gaskets, etc.

Re: "Custom" Dual exhaust/Iron Trap Garage

That is a nice car. Must’ve been an interesting guy. He did all that stuff without damaging the car. The mechanic Steve put it well, “He did all the wrong things, the right way.”
