26-27 Model T coupe. Would need serial Number on side of block just above water inlet to tell more.

I do not think there are many differences.
Have you tried looking at the serial number on the block. Also there is supposed to be a serial number on the frame somewhere near where the passengers feet would be.

Re: 26 or 27 coupe?

Generally, at a glance Id say its a 1927 with the cross bar between the headlights. The 1927 used pretty much exclusively a vaporizer carburetor which has the throttle rod go across the top of the block. A true 1927 block wont have the rod "hole" between cylinders 2&3 nor the hole for the same through the valve cover. Also on that note, the throttle shaft alongside the steering column will only have on hole for a pin for the linkage arm towards the top just below the springs. If theres another hole down lower for the rod that goes through the block, then all bets are off. The '27 didnt have the lower hole but tons of parts have been swapped out over the last 85 years.
USUALLY, the 27s all had wire wheels getting tooled up for the 1928 model A run, but I think wood wheels were still available.
The block number will tell a lot and so will the frame number stamped on the rail top just inside the passenger door. That one is usually harder to read as the rail sprang when stamped. ws

Yep, that frame number is what you want. That will pin down the date of manufacture.

Re: 26 or 27 coupe?

Marv,

I would say Bill is right with the headlight crossbar being the best clue in the pictures. I think it is interesting that they took a 25 or earlier sediment bulb and screwed it into the tank; I am sure it work so that was all that mattered.

Also, welcome and it is great to see another Minnesotan. I am in St Joseph and stock new reproduction parts along with lots of used parts. We also do restoration and repair work; so we have lots of knowledge I can share if you have any questions once you start. I am past president of the Great Northern Model T Club and its current secretary. If you email me at [email protected], I can forward you our next newsletter and you are welcome to come to any our events and join if you like.

Marv,
The 26/27 seat riser and pan under the front seat are different also.

Re: 26 or 27 coupe?

I removed a 26 trunk pan for my 27 and it was way different too. I still think the factory was trying to transition to the Model A with new bending/stretching techniques with sheet metal etc... ws

Re: 26 or 27 coupe?

There were differences in the sizes of the holes in the inner doors and the parts around the rear window.
