Sticking starter swtich The contact in the starter switch sometimes seems to weld itself to the button on the motor. Any suggestions?

Re: Sticking starter swtich I dissassemble the switch and resurface the contact points. If the bronze plate has any cracks at the bolt hole, discard that part. Gar Williams

Re: Sticking starter swtich What Gar said above, also I had good results from bending the spring contact slightly "away" from the stud on the starter.

Re: Sticking starter swtich I've done the same thing as Sparky said. The spring seems to get weaker over time, and now and then needs to be bent back a little.
|
Re: Sticking starter swtich I've added a small section of rubber hose under the copper (I have a repro switch) contact spring in order to give it a more of a push upward when released.

Re: Sticking starter swtich Low voltage supply will cause this too. Make sure the battery, and grounds are up to snuff.

Re: Sticking starter swtich Had the same problem on my Dad's Coupe, we decided to get rid of the floor switch and wire in a button/solenoid........it was a huge improvement.

Re: Sticking starter swtich Also make sure the starter is in good shape & not drawing to much current. Also if starter, switch and wiring are up to snuff,no solenoid needed.

Re: Sticking starter swtich I did what Will N did and it works great.

Re: Sticking starter swtich Some of the cheapo repro starter switches have bronze or poor grade of copper for the contact arm. This will heat up and lose its springeness.
|
Re: Sticking starter swtich "This will heat up and lose its springiness." This will also happen if the starter is engaged for long periods trying to start a stubborn motor or one that needs service
