Trico rebuild questions

I got caught in the rain in the 47 pickup yesterday and my trico has long since worked so I thought a rebuild is in order. I have it all apart and I am wondering what kind of grease is used in these? The original grease is redish in color, what can I buy that that will work in the rebuild? No parts houses mention it.

Just coat things lightly.

Re: Trico rebuild questions

clean gook from between leathers with a pick
use no strong solvents that might dry leather
good luck

Did you put a kit in it or just clean and coat with Vasoline?

I just took it apart after it had sit in a pasture for 35 years cleaned everything up & applied Vaseline to all moving parts left a little extra inside I think I had to make a new gasket & put it back together works great.

Used silicone grease in mine in 1985, then car sat for 25 years indoors. Thought I would have to go through it again, but it still works fine. I used just enough to coat the paddle and lube the inside of the housing.

I just filled mine with 3 in 1 oil and let it sit for a day. Drained out the oil and put in a new line, works great. That is after for 38 years.

Not much to rebuilding one, but the gaskets are a problem to make. Anyone know of a source for rebuild kits, especially the gaskets.

Mac's has the gaskets and full rebuild parts. I just used some vasoline and put it back together with a rebuild kit. It works! I can actually make it move back and forth by sucking in on the inlet tube. Must have done something right.
