35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question My 36 PU front fenders have rectangular openings for the bumper bracket vs slots, but maybe this question is applicable to either year. There are three 9/64 inch diameter holes on the bolt hole flange on cab side located at about 10 3/4, 15 3/4, and 20 1/4 inch from the running board end on both fenders. Anyone know what these are for?

Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question 1 Attachment(s)
There are lower fender brackets. The main front fender bracket is the large bracket in which the headlights are attached. There is a lower one.
The picture is not the greatest, but it shows the lower fender bracket where it mounts to the inner fender and frame. The bracket then uses carriage bolts to attach this bracket to the lip of the front fender. |

Here is an image showing the underside of a front fender showing the holes.

Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question 2 Attachment(s)
If they are on the inside of the fender, here is another photo. The inner fender panel does attach to the fender, and the remaining holes attach to the blind nuts in the cab cowl

Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question Ngnear22...The picture Mr. Rogers posted appears to be of the early 35 pickup front fender that had the "bar" across the bottom of the slot for the bumper brackets. The bumper bracket slot was open on the bottom on later 35's and the 36/7 pickups. The holes you asked about are the same. Good luck with your project.

Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question Thanks all for your replies. The rear brace behind the wheel bolt locations are challenging for me and this helps! But, the 3 small holes I'm wondering about are seen in nelsb01 photo of inside the fender, near the right side of photo (rear end of fender) and between the fender bolt holes. Maybe used to fix webbing?

Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question Yes.
There were very small nails (for lack of proper term) used to attach the webbing. I plan to use rubber cement when I finally attach the webbing. |
Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question Those small holes are for split rivets. Ford used these to hold the fender welting on a part. They are also used on things like the radiator splash shield. Third Gen sells a pack of them. I don't have the part number off-hand but if you call them I'm sure they can set you up. 844-327-5988

Re: 35 - 36 Ford Pickup Front Fender Hole Question Super! Going thru my inventory of forgotten parts last weekend and found rolls of fender welt and a pack of brass-colored split rivets, in different locations. Was wondering what they were used for. I don't even remember buying them. Time is an enemy to memory. Thanks for solving the mystery!
