'39-41 Ford Brakes - Clip Identification

Took these out super easily before disassembly of everything for fixing, cleanup and re-painting. Can't seem to find a picture beforehand, so can anyone identify where these go?

A picture or diagram would be helpful. Thx!

Re: '39-41 Ford Brakes - Clip Identification

i've recently had both rear hubs (1941 super deluxe) and brakes disassembled, down to the last horseshoe retainer, backing plate and pivot bolt and don't remember seeing anything like those. they may have been used to retain the sheathed e-brake cable to the frame as it winds its way from the handle to underneath the car where it attaches to the rear cable. or possibly the flexible rubber brake lines that run to the brake cylinders. *headscratch*

if they involved the front brakes, i'm of no help, as i haven't had cause to go there...yet. :)

Those are the brake shoe retaining clips for 1942-48 front backing plates (which the second picture of everything appears to show that you are working with). The just slip into place on the backing plate. The 1939-41 clips were kind of mushroomed after they were put in place to retain them.

Your rear brakes are '39-'41.

yes, i do recall, very well, the two clips on each backing plate, but they were not removeable on my backing plates, AFAIK.

and BTW, notice the spring. the hook points up on one end and down on the other. and if the "up" end is not attached from underneath on the proper shoe (i.e. the front or rear shoe and unfortunately i don't remember which) the shoes cannot be fitted properly, if at all. and what's worse is that it may not be apparent until the e-brake levers are being fitted...or maybe i should say are FAILing, over and over and over again, to be fitted.

and don't forget that those e-brake levers are NOT symmetrical. there are two for the right side and two different ones, although only slightly different, for the left side. mine were stamped "LH" and "RH".
