I have been running stats from a subaru justy. 180 degree. They are available in regular auto parts stores and seem to stay put in the hose right against the necks on the heads. Hopefully someone has a part # or what year subaru is the one for our V8s.

I do the same as GB. Carquest 13848 Is the part number. Drill a 3/16” or so hole to avoid air pockets. And so it stays put on top of the head, I have another hose clamp right above it to squeeze the hose just enough to prevent it from moving up the hose.

Isn’t that the truth! You should have seen the kid when I went to O’Reilly’s and asked for a set of spark plugs for my ‘37 Ford pickup with a ‘55 DeSoto hemi in it. You know they have to know the make and engine size. LOL

Share the hobby with the youth...It and us are becoming a Flintstone adventure to the electronic generation.
I was blessed that my now custom car building son was hanging out in the shop when I was tinkering. He learned what bailing wire was for and when you needed to tap a starter with a hammer.
I read somewhere that; "let him who has received the gift freely share it." Chap

Re: 37 thermostat question

When I put mine in I went with the 180 degrees option vs the 160 thinking in Wisconsin I might use the heater. While I have on occasion it is rare. As warm as these engines run I now think the cooler stat would have been the wiser choice. I always obcess with summer running temps and vapor lock.

Ken
Your thermostat only helps with quick warm-up and determines the minimum operating temp. When the engine starts to run warm, both 160 and 180 stats will be wide open just the same. IMHO, 180 is better for a clean running engine.
